“We win on the playing field of time.” — Chris Suarez
The key to growing a big business and creating an experiential life is mastering time. The abundance of choices available to us can be paralyzing, overwhelming, and exhausting. Instead of talking about doing more, we need to focus on the activities that optimize the outcomes we want to achieve.
The good news? We are in control. We get to choose what to engage in or disengage from … we get to opt in or out … we get to say yes or no.
Here are the 7 Steps to Freeing Time:
Conduct a time audit. Make the most of the time you already have free before you start figuring out where to find it elsewhere. A series of quick wins is a sure-fire way to big success down the road.
What matters in your life right now connects to your values. What can you eliminate forever? What can you reschedule for another day or delegate to a member of your team? If you had to do just ONE thing, what would it be?
To be in the best shape of your life, you have to do three things: engage in physical fitness (well-chosen movement), work on your craft (progress toward your vital goals), and enjoy the fruits of your labor (free time that is stress-free).
Build systems to move faster. Let go and reduce friction. Identify the nonsense, adopt minimalism, reject perfectionism, and purge your commitments. Procrastinate intelligently, eradicate bad habits, and pass the baton.
Fill your free time with meaningful goals. If you expect too much from your calendar, your calendar will fail you. If you expect too much from others, they will fail you. If you expect too much from yourself, you’ll fail yourself.
Fight against distraction. All imaginable things can become distractions. Be vigilant and protect your future self.
Dig hard into your work, then take a step back and strategize more intelligently. Productivity is an action game. Knowing productivity strategies or levers is vastly different from actually applying them and getting tremendous results because of them.
